How to Protect Your House From Fire
Unfortunately fires are something many people have to deal with,
especially in certain areas and at certain times of the year, so it is
important for everyone to know what they can expect and how they should
act in case of a fire.
The first tip that comes to mind is easy access to your home. If you live in the urban area, this is not as big of a problem, but many dwellers in rural areas may be affected. First of all, when you are renting out or moving into a property you have to make sure your place is on the map, and there are no areas with similar names that can be mistaken for your address. If your house is not immediately visible from the road there needs to be clear signs all the way to the house to let the firefighters get to you as quickly as possible.
Risky seasons. When you are living through a season that is particularly risky for fires you need to be more cautious as usual. To get a fire extinguisher is an absolute necessity for every household but knowing how to use it properly is also very important so make sure you do that. In seasons such as Christmas make sure you know fire safety well, learn an easy escape route and have neighbors on speed dial in case you notice something dangerous happening because both urban and rural areas can catch fire easily if it spreads fast.
Practice the escape. Because most of the fatal incidents involving fires occur at night it is a great idea to practice your escape at night when you can't really see. If you wear glasses keep them by the bed unless you don't want to be in the dark and without your glasses.
Avoid stairwells. Staircases can be deadly because they become filled with smoke and gas quickly so when you are coming up with escape plans try to avoid the use of stairs if possible. If you need to escape out of the window, it is a good idea to learn how to make bed sheets into a rope and practice that move.
If a fire has already started and you don't want it to spread, put a wet blanket under the door to keep the smoke from going in. don't pour water on electric equipment as it can make the fire worse and hurt you.
If you have a family, then make sure you practice together. Pick a meeting point away from the house to make sure no one gets lost when they get out. Educating yourself about fire safety will help you deal with the situation properly and avoid problems in the future. Prevention is of course better than having to deal with fire, so be careful.
